Cutest Kid Ever

The cutest thing just occurred at my special needs school. Since I'm not exactly sure of how things are supposed to go today, nor what I'm supposed to be doing, I've just been meeting with different students and classes. I just came back from an elementary class (since the school is composed of all grade levels). My JTE directed me to the class, and once I joined in he left me to hang with the children. They first had me introduce myself and though I've been told to refrain from speaking in Japanese, there is only one English class and it only has 9 students I believe... so I feel like I have to speak in Japanese in order for them to understand me. After my simple little intro, the main girl in charge of the kids was mentioning a block for me to sit on, and appeared to be asking the kids something. A little boy quickly stood up and raised his hand. It then came to me that she asked who wanted me to sit next to them. I went to him and cracked a joke saying I was a little big in Japanese, which had them laughing. I slowly sat down and the boy seemed happy. The girl on my other side, however, didn't seem as thrilled... I think she began to cry. I was like, ”ごめなさい。。。ちょっとこわいい。” (gomenasai... chotto kowaii... sorry, I'm a little scary...). They said it was okay and... yeah... she didn't seem to be crying anymore. We sang two songs... one about a jump hall I think where they do different actions, the other was about making curry. I understood some of it... but, mostly just copied everyone's gestures. After that, it was like a five minute map, and we all laid on the floor. I had my arm outstretched, putting my head on my shoulder/upper arm like I usually do... and that was the invitation to cuteness.

The boy who wanted me to sit next to him, began to touch my face (I think because of the stubble that had already began to appear regardless of the fact that I had shaved this morning). He started to wipe some of my sweat off all while laughing. Another lady laughed, but told the boy it was quiet time. He then placed his head on my outstretched arm to use it as a pillow. Oh man that was cuteness overload. He began running his hands on my forearm. I'm pretty sure it's because of my slightly hairy arms... especially compared to the Japanese. He then smelled my arm... ::shrugs:: I guess as a means of smelling a gaijin... heh heh... it was all very cute.

We then finished with nap time... so we picked up the blocks and he grabbed my hand to walk with him to his class. I dropped him off... and said goodbye to him... he was very cute.

Now that's the cutest story ever! I don't know if I could have refrained from picking him and squeezing him while saying "KAWAII!!!" (<-- hehe, law suit) but yeah, then you go and make a girl cry. lol, j/k. It's just like when Alex and Rachael asked that little girl on the street if she was ok and she turned and ran...only this girl couldn't run so she cried.
So what kind of special needs do these kids have?

Awwww. Dude you were totally in your element! I'm all about the nap time. Shit, i would have been the first one on that floor :o) Just don't pass out pictures of me and say "she's weird, she drives a truck and plays pokemon. Do you know girls that do that? No? I didn't think so."

Jenny - I know... it took a lot of effort not to be all giddy and stuff... heh heh. As for the disabilities... I saw a different variety. Including development and mobil disabilities... some kids were in wheelchairs. I think I saw some kids with down syndrome... since the face is usually very distinct. But, even though they have disabilities... they are very high functioning and speak pretty well... in Japanese at least. ANd they know the school culture and rules pretty well, like changing shoes and what to say when you enter the staff room, etc.

As for some kids... I really don't know what disability they had... they seemed very typical to me... maybe it's like a mild autism or something along those lines.

Gabie -

Oh man... I can only imagine you during nap time. Then telling the little boy... "Shhh... don't talk to me... I'm napping." Heh heh... needless to say... you probably wouldn't have thought it was that cute if it had occurred to you... heh heh...
