... granted... this cat is the epitome of genki... but, still... my apartment is so full of life!
Never did I think I'd have a cat... and here I am staring at one as it surprisingly lays calmly on my windowsill.
Aiery... you are so cute!
So, the question... why a cat?
I've wanted a pet for a while now... and though I've always been a dog person, I would feel really bad to be at work the whole time while the dog is pooped in my small apartment alone. Also, having an otter might be frowned upon... so, they're out of the question too.
So, naturally I went for a cat. Independent creatures that can spend eternity in a house and be alone. Lucky for me... this cat is both independent and social... so, it gives me the affection I need but, can be by itself as well.
So, that's why this cat came to be.
On Wednesday... having heard that veterinary offices tend to post flyers for orphaned cats, I stopped by the one next to my place. I asked about a flyer, and though the mentioned cats weren't available... they did have one cat in their office. So, the lady brought her out and... BAM... love at first sight. This cat had such a nice coloring and the eyes were nice too. I picked her up and she let me carry her without a problem.
I instantly decided to get it and got all prepared for the long 1-minute trek back home.
Being a bit shy and worried in the new environment, I just let her explore the apartment while I set things up. She was very timid and mostly stayed in the bathroom by her kitty litter. Once I was finished, I decided that I had forgotten to buy her dishes for her food and water, so I went to check up on her before leaving.
... except... I never found her. My apartment is not exactly a mansion... so, if you can imagine, spending 10 minutes looking for her is quite an ordeal. I kept searching in boxes and bags and any hole or crevice... even if it made no sense.
Obviously she wasn't even trying to be found either... still being shy and nervous. So, I had to stop and recollect my thoughts to remember where and when I last saw her. That's when I remember her being in the bathroom. I checked once again, remembering she had tried going behind the toilet... and that's when I noticed a hole big enough for her to fit in... going into the wall. Why is there a hole there... I don't know. Doesn't seem very Japanese to me to just leave the hole open like that just because you can't see it... but, yeah... that's where she was. I got a flashlight and tried calling her out... and that's when I saw a head pop out.
She obviously made no effort to actually come out... so, I had to try and bait her out with food.
It took a while, but she finally came out and I was able to block off that hole before she got back in.
... I believe this was a good foreshadowing of what's to come with Aiery... but, this is what makes life interesting and fun... I CAN'T WAIT!
This cat... this cat and I are meant to be!
