Man, I had the best response from a dialogue... uh... wow... I blanked for a second. I wanted to say "dialogue practice" and all I could think of was "dialogue renshuu"... don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Anyway... I was basically suppose to teach "I'm in the _________ now. There is a _________./ There are _________." Being in a school setting, my students were supposed to put the name of a room in the first blank (classroom, gym, music room, staff room, etc.). Then they were supposed to state what was in the room (a chair, students, desks... etc.)
However, I didn't think that using that statement structure would be as useful as using it in a more common and social manner. So, after we practiced, I wanted to show them how you could use it in different situations. So, I pretended to be calling a student on the cell phone and ask them where they were. They then had to respond where they were (some students said hospital, park, mall... etc.). Then they would say what they saw around them. I figured using it in this situation would be more useful since that's typically what happens in social situations. You trying to meet up with some friends, so you call them and ask where they are. And usually the response is their location and what is around them. So, I definitely thought this would be more helpful.
Then one student caught me by surprise.
::ring, ring::
Me- "Moushi moushi!"
Student- "Moushi moushi Bikutaa."
Me- "Where are you?"
Student- "I'm in your house..."
Me- "Nani?!? My house?!?!?"
Student- "Yes, there is you."
Me- "Aaaa! Kowaii!!!!!"
Heh heh... I did later correct him saying that you would technically say "you are there"... but, man... how priceless. I laughed so hard. Though, I can't help wonder if that was a "red flag" moment. Hope he doesn't turn up to be a stalker... not necessarily my stalker... but, anybody's stalker. A telephone call like that would freak anybody out... heh heh...
Anyway... my students rock!
