Sunday, August 31, 2008; 6:25 PM - Day 05 BI (Before Internet)
... but, I guess this will have to do.
Basically... I just discovered that this site actually works... so, that means that Myspace and this blog will be my way of keeping you connected with me.I'm not going to go into details about my past couple of days... since I've already typed that on my computer... and will just copy and paste those entries once I actually get internet in my apartment. So, until then... you will have to remain in suspense... heh heh...
Now, as for today... I woke up early again and bummed around for a bit. Then, I got ready and set out for the high school's culture festival. Met up with Rob and we pretty much made a big impact... heh heh...Some students were surprised to see us... some others... I guess the less shy and really open ones... eagerly tried to communicate with us and get us to enter their classroom and see their displays. We had a little private performance in one of the classrooms... and there were these younger... I guess elementary aged boys who really tried communicating with us. They ended up giving us little gifts... they called it "slime." Not exactly sure what it was... but, it was this colored substance in film canisters. But... hey, they're gifts regardless... heh heh. We saw them later on and I gave them high fives and an adult tried to get them to speak in English to us... maybe she was an English teacher... but, the kid said... "I'm Hungry!" It was funny... but, also in pretty good English... heh heh.
We then were about to leave... but, they asked us to sit to drink some green tea. I felt bad saying no... so, we sat anyway. They gave us sweets and I saved it until the green tea came. I then tried to remember as much as possible about green tea ceremonies... so, I looked at the design of the cup before turning it around and drinking it. Once I finished, I then turned it back to the direction they had given it to me. I made sure to thank them and tell them it was good... which, it was since I had saved the sweets until before drinking it... heh heh...
We left after that... and felt like our presence here was officially truly made since there were many people at the festival.
We went to the Daily Depot and I bought some stuff... and Rob pointed out marshmallows. Score! I bought some Cocoa Pebble looking cereal and butter... so, now I'll be able to make some... or at least attempt to make some Rice Krispies Treats for my schools this week... since they said it's good to bring presents... especially desserts... on your first day.
However, with that purchase... I'm officially low on cash. Think I'm down to like 9000 - Yen... :sigh: Still no luck on finding an ATM that accepts my card... so, I might just have to visit a bigger city next weekend.
Well... that's about it for today... am going to try to find some more sandwiches to keep for eating... and then go to my apartment to make the dessert and prep for my first lesson tomorrow.
Later!

Yo!
That's pretty cool that you'll be able to make the rice krispy treats for them...you'll become their favorite americanjin. Good luck tomorrow? or it's already tomorrow there, but technically you're asleep, so w/e. Ganbatte!
Rice Krispy Treats!! I'm so Jealling, but I think it's a great first day treat. Do they even have those in Japan? Next time try to make some "crack cookies" lol, once they have one, they'll never stop! Good luck on your first day :o)
I ended up typing another entry once I got home... it was a bit of a depressing entry compared to this one... but, yeah... I'll post that once I get internet again. Point is... the Rice Krispies Treats didn't come out good... so I threw it away... ::sigh::
